Hybrid strains are one of the three main types of cannabis plants. The other two strains are sativa and Indica. Hybrids are a breed of marijuana plants that are cross-bred with either pure strains or other hybrid strains. The different types of hybrids are either sativa dominant, Indica dominant, or a 50/50 blend of both.

The two main strains of the cannabis plant, the sativa, and the Indica have specific qualities that give the user a unique experience. Sativa strains are known for their energizing and euphoric properties. The Indica strain has a more mellowing and relaxing effect. Hybrids of the two create a combination effect.

A pure sativa strain can give you a wild rush of energy. The effects of a sativa dominant hybrid are more of an energy-lift rather than a rocket boost, depending on how much of the sativa is mixed into the plant.

Some heavier pure Indica strains have a sedative effect. These strains are nicknamed “couch-lock.” When you use them, you don’t want to leave your couch…ever. An Indica dominant strain would give you a more relaxed feel, than a sedative effect.

There are many different brands of hybrid strains. Growers and producers are coming out with new strains all the time. The possibilities for cross-breeding are endless! A new addition to hybrids is adding essential oils into the mix. This is both for the aroma and the health benefits of both the oils and the marijuana.

Benefits of Hybrid Strains

Many essential oils have the same healing benefits as cannabis does. Both can be used as topical creams, lotions, and massage oils. They can also be ingested as tinctures, or in teas, and foods. Essential oils have the additional benefit of being able to be used as an aromatherapy. The smell of many of the oils have healing qualities such lavender helps with sleep and relaxation, and lemon balm gives you an uplifted feeling.
